Sewer & Sewage Blockages
Sewage backing up? Sewer blockages cleared
Sewage backing up or a manhole overflowing? Cleared fast, and we'll tell you if it's the water company's job.
Overview
Sewage coming up through a manhole, a downstairs toilet or a shower tray is a health risk and needs dealing with quickly. We clear blocked foul drains and sewer connections across Farnborough and the surrounding towns, and clean up so the area's safe to use again.
Not every sewer blockage is yours to pay for. Since October 2011, shared sewers and lateral drains outside your property boundary in England have been the water company's responsibility. Jack will find where the blockage is and tell you honestly whether you should be calling us or them.

Signs of a sewer blockage
- Sewage or toilet paper in an outside manhole
- Downstairs toilet, shower or bath filling with dirty water
- Strong sewage smells inside or outside
- Several fixtures draining slowly at once
- Gurgling from drains when other things are used
What to do right now
- Stop using toilets, sinks, the shower and appliances
- Keep children and pets away from any sewage
- Don't lift heavy manhole covers yourself
- Call us, and if neighbours have the same problem, mention it
If neighbours are affected too, the blockage is probably in a shared sewer, which points to the water company. If it's only you, it's most likely in your own drain.
Clearing it properly
We clear foul drains with high-pressure jetting, which removes the wipes, fat and debris that cause most sewer blockages and cleans the pipe walls at the same time. If the drain has been blocking regularly, a CCTV survey shows whether there's damage underneath that needs repairing.
FAQs
Sewer & Sewage Blockages: common questions
Who is responsible for a blocked sewer?
Drains inside your boundary that serve only your property are usually yours. Shared sewers and lateral drains outside your boundary are usually the water company's. Your water bill shows which company handles your sewerage.
Is sewage backing up an emergency?
Yes. Stop using water in the house and call. We're typically with you in under an hour, and at weekends Jack takes urgent calls at any hour.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Yes. We clear the blockage and leave the area clean and tidy before we go.
